Biography

Hola! Happy to see you on my page. My name is Pekka. I know – my name is a bit strange; some even have thought that Pekka Hara is a directorsʼ collective or Asian female director. Unfortunately, I am not either. I am just a guy from Finland who wanted to become a rock star and failed miserably. Maybe I should have stayed with the other dream professions that I had in my mind when I was a kid. The first one was to become a tractor driver and the second an animal tamer.

To make the long story short: after failing to fulfil my childhood dreams I ended up being a film director. A very serious sign of that is the rather pompous title of ” Best International Director” I was awarded with at Midsummer Awards in London 2005. A year later highly acclaimed Creativity magazine picked me to “Directors To Watch” article, which featured the 20 most interesting up- coming directors around the world. In 2009 I won a Silver Lion – and thatʼs a stunt that no other Finnish director hasnʼt been able to pull off in the Cannes Lions film category since in the early 80s. Well, probably that fact tells more about the history of Finnish creativity in general than about me. Anyway – against all odds, my spots have been frequently hitting the finalist lists in Cannes, New York, Eurobest and Montreux since 2003. Thatʼs about it – I hope my films tell more about me than my silly text.
